MISCONCEPTIONS OF EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS' ON THE UNIT OF STATES OF MATTER AND HEAT

Abstract
The concept teaching is situated at the core of the teaching process. Therefore, misconceptions are important in this process. The purpose of this study is to determine the misconceptions of 8th grade students about “States of Matter and Heat” unit. The sample of this study is composed of 8th grade students in Erdemli district of Mersin. There are 31 students in the study group. Case study method of qualitative research methods used in this study. In order to examine students' misconceptions about the ‘states of matter and heat' unit, the data collection tool of the study consisting of twenty-eight questions was developed by the researcher. The results of the research showed that students have misconceptions and wrong information about heat, temperature, energy conversion, heat exchanges, melting and evaporation.
