Abstract
Recent advances in technology are delivering electrical locking systems and surveillance for automobile safety. These systems are not at all cost effective and are complex to install operate and maintain for the major budget population of urban cities. These kinds of security systems present adequate security using motors and simple circuits which tend to fail in rough conditions or wearout over period of time. This opens up the requirement of a fail proof mechanical system. This paper explains an automobile transmission locking system (ATLS) which is based on basic mechanical actuation and conventional locking physics to obtain a fail proof all-weather transmission lock that restricts an automobile at its place after the vehicle has been parked or turned off. We first present the basics of locking obtained through interference. Then, we introduce the basic components involved and discussing the cognitive complexity of each part with diagrammatic illustrations. Next, we introduce the operational contact medium and identify challenges and solutions relating to locking profile, space requirements, actuation mechanism and part life. Finally, we synthesize the results to highlight remaining challenges, unanswered questions, and open problems for ATLS, as well as how to address them in future works
