Abstract

The advent of modern hospitality education in India although not very old has seen rapid growth in the last few decades. Acknowledging the need to upgrade the hospitality education and meet the demand of hospitality industry the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India has initiated a bill to upgrade the National council for Hotel Management. The Ministry of Tourism ( Government of India ) has proposed to upgrade as a ‘Institute of National Importance' by an act of parliament to regulate and promote advanced education , research training and consultancy in the field of hotel management and allied empowering it to award degree , in the domain and related fields . The bill for upgraded institute has been introduced in the parliament for approval as the National Institute of Hospitality Management Bill, 2018.The draft of the bill was put up for comments from public and stake holders more than. Seventy respondents many of whom are also the stake holders have given their comments on the draft. This paper is a critique of their comments and gives an analysis of the views of the public many of whom are stakeholders regarding the future of hospitality education in India. Most importantly it will also decide whether there will be a paradigm shift in the image of hospitality education, and it would be considered as a proper and serious field of education able to attract quality and serious talent, which is the demand of the hospitality industry especially in the field of management.
