THE FRAME OF MIND OF AHMET ŞUAYB WHO IS LATE OTTOMAN INTELLECTUALS

Ahmet Şuayb was one of our intellectuals who lived in the last period of Ottoman Empire and tried to find solutions in the problems of the country in which there is decadence in that era in his articles in almost every branch of social scienses which can be observed in his views. Ahmet Şuayb who was not known enough in our scientific and cultural life nowadays, tried to introduce H. Taine's effect and his articles in “Ulum-u İktisadiyye ve İçtimaiyye” journal which is regorded as a publication of positive movement in our country, he adopted Positivism and predicated that it's necessary to reject metaphysics because of its very fictionality. We can observe the loyalty of Şuayb to the positivism in his admiration for A. Comte. According to Şuayb, nobody could manage to determine the border between science and philosophy better than him and nobody could manage to describe canalization of human soul better than him. However, it's a handicap to consider him as a strict positivist due to his standpoint about İslam as a basic element of society. İndeed, metaphysics is not necessary to be in natural scienses called positive, apart from these, in the human scienses metaphysic is the dominant element, as he assertted. Since he died in avery young age and he wrate in various fields, he couldn't find opportunity to shape his personality.
