Abstract
Russian lithography during the 1840s, 1850s and 1860s was driven by the number of newly-emerged private and state-owned workshops. Their work hasn't been the subject of any research until now. When it concerns this specific subject, researchers' interest has been limited to collecting and classifying the art prints of a particular lithography workshop. Our archive data work has allowed us to fill in the gaps in the history and culture of Russian printmaking. The majority of lithographic workshops were owned by foreign nationals. Amongst these nationals, Germans came to dominate this sphere of art. Technical commissions were the chief source of profit to lithographic workshops. However, art prints which had been produced in lithographic workshops had a great influence on the Russian print art of the late 19th and early 20th century.
