The author emphasizes that self-improvement of personality is a complex functional system that has its own structure, logic and stages of development. The process of physical self-improvement goes through such successive stages: self-knowledge, self-improvement planning, direct practical work on themselves which is carried out according to the plan, self-control and self-correction of this work. From the public point of view the main sources of physical self-improvement of young people are the demands of society to a modern personality and its professional level. The sources of improvement of physical education efficiency are independent work in the forms of lessons and after-hours, skillful use of means of training and education, cooperation between teachers and pupils (students), timely rest, eliminating of formalism in the different areas of mastering new skills. Physical education efficiency is ensured by the stability of motives, ability to set long-term goals, and to foresee the consequences of their own activities, and to overcome difficulties, and to seek the innovative means of solving problems, to work flexibly and creatively. Increasing of efficiency of physical self-improvement is impossible without pedagogical formation of the young people motives and interests. Motive is one of the components of motivational sphere of pupils and students; it is the focusing of activity on the subject, internal mental condition that is directly related to the objective characteristics of the subject. The author gives the results of a written survey that allow to draw conclusions about the types and regularity of the pupils and students independent physical training. A written survey was conducted on the basis of the comprehensive secondary school No. 20 of the city of Uzhhorod and Uzhhorod National University. In this case, the method of group questioning was applied. The author came to the conclusion that most pupils and students aren't regularly engaged in morning gymnastics. The popularity of morning exercises is steadily declining among students. Training in the mode of the school day is not common either in schools or in universities. On the other hand, there is a positive that among students are spread out a home training and physical exercises at the place of residence, unlike schoolchildren. A great obstacle to young people physical self-improvement is inaccessibility of specialized physical culture organizations and sports facilities. The written survey allows to draw conclusions about actions of physical culture teachers that are most conducive to improving the efficiency of physical self-improvement of school and student's young people. The most important actions of physical culture teachers in this context are nurturing pupils' and students' self-study skills, and regular promotion of the benefits of physical exercises and healthy lifestyle, support close contacts with the pupils and the students, knowledge of their needs, and creating a joyful emotional background during a training. The results lead to the conclusion that independent physical exercises don't take the proper place in the lives of young people. This is negatively reflected in the provision of the optimal individual mode of motor activity.
