Abstract
The paper discusses the importance of small business for the Russian economic system and com‑ pares performance indicators of small business in Russia and abroad. The authors examine the state of small business in federal districts of the Russian Federation, paying particular attention to the North Caucasus Federal District. The paper presents the dynamics of the SMEs number, their turnover and fixed capital investments generally in the country and in the North Caucasus Federal District. In addi‑ tion, the authors scrutinize the data on financial support of small business in the regions of the federal district under consideration. Finally, trends and prospects of small business development in the North Caucasus Federal District are outlined.
