DIAGNOSING OF THE LEVEL OF FUTURE BACHELORS-PHILOLOGISTS’ PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE IN ORAL TRANSLATION

Abstract
Introduction. This article deals with the appraising of professional competence level of bachelor-philologists in sight translation in scientific and technical fields. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to analyze the level of professional competence of bachelor-philologists in sight translation in scientific and technical fields. Results. The definition of experiment is given. The specifics of the experiment is considered as active interfering of the researcher in the situation, where heshe changes pedagogical conditions and provides repeated replication of studied phenomena under various conditions. The criteria for assessing the sight translation are particularly underdeveloped. However, most researchers use different assessment criteria and different approaches to identify the parameters that help to assess the level of sight translation as activity and target text (texts belong to different functional styles) as a product. The following assessment criteria to identify the level of interpreter professional competence in sight translation are selected: 1) the degree of the main content preservation in the target text; 2) the accuracy of speech; 3) the number of hesitation; 4) the high enunciation; 5) facility and fluency. These criteria are used to assess the future bachelor-philologists from the III–IV year of studying on linguistic faculty. Originality. The organization and process of the experimental study is examined. The gradation of errors types that occur during sight translation is given. The criteria to evaluate the sight translation level are defined. Conclusion. So, sight translation is the important integrated part of the professional competence of translator/interpreter. The results received during appraising of professional competence level of bachelor-philologists in sight translation in scientific and technical fields proved that future translators/interpreters should be taught this type of translation during third and fourth year of studying.
