Abstract
This article describes differences of archival and museum storage of documents. The author researched institutional differences, stereotypes in the Ukrainian society concerning museums and specific of the legislation that have led to almost complete rejection of museum collections as resources for archival documents, although they have this status objectively. Arguments to start the interdisciplinary discussion are proposed in the article. It is also noted that the participation of the society in the study of museum collections supports the world trend of participatory practices in culture and museums.
