Abstract
An investigation was conducted to characterize the motives and representations of today's users in health libraries from Baracoa, 2014. The sample was: 120 regular users of libraries and two focus groups. The information was obtained by questionnaire, the re test interviews and focus group. A triple triangulation was applied depending on the reliability and validity. The motives and anti motives for the library were related to the competing interests of students in the teaching process, and research-curricular in teachers. Users are identified by their institutions and are recognized as centers that support the university processes, accompany the user and progress. However the personal imagination about the ideal library and the librarian are still distant from the actual-real. A diagnosis of the current situation and prospects of the desired level of unquestionable value for future strategies are provided in this work.
