Abstract

Alcohol acts as a catalyst for the processes that lead to death, and is the direct cause of death. Alcohol consumption has been proven to be the seventh leading avoidable risk factor for premature mortality, morbidity and social harm worldwide. Disorders related to alcohol consumption include certain types of cancer, neuropsy- chiatric disorders (e.g. major depressive disorder), cardiovascular diseases as well as intentional and unintention- al injuries (including road traffic accidents, falls, drownings, violence or self-inflicted injuries). However, the most causally related somatic disorders due to alcohol consumption are liver diseases including cirrhosis and alcoholic hepatitis
