Abstract

Maternal mortality is currently a serious global problem. About 800 women die every day from pre- ventable causes associated with pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, maternal mortality is one of the main cri- teria by which the quality and level of organization of work of modern obstetric institutions are determined, as well as the effectiveness of introducing scientific achievements in healthcare practice. Women die as a result of complications that can develop during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as in the postpartum period. The main complications that cause death in 75 % of cases are severe bleeding, infections, high blood pressure during preg- nancy, postpartum complications, and unsafe abortion. In other cases, the main causes are HIV / AIDS during pregnancy
