Abstract
The paper deals with the improvement of foreign language competence using the mobile application «Instagram» in the process of learning English. Taking into consideration the popularity of Instagram among youth, it is essential to study this application not only for entertainment, but also for educational purpose. During the study, it was determined that the main advantages are the development of such skills as listening, writing, reading and of course speaking. All these skills are actualized due to the Instagram features such as interactive quizzes, tests, based on the studied material, watching videos and listening to songs in English, active participation in live broadcasts, student feedbacks in the form of comments, video insta stories and suggestions about the desired content. The basis of this paper creation is pedagogical experiment and the model of P. Mishra and M. J. Kohler «Technology, pedagogy and content of knowledge» The pedagogical experiment consists in creation of an account on Instagram for learning the English language in order to improve the foreign language competence of students and pupils. The model «Technology, Pedagogy, and Knowledge Content» makes it possible to determine the correlation between the modern technologies in teaching, pedagogical methods, and improving student knowledge. The article also notes that the mobile application «Instagram» determines the growth of efficiency and improvement of skills, the acquisition of new and consolidation of acquired knowledge, which is an important factor in the educational process. The authors concluded that the social network «Instagram» is an effective tool of learning English, forging interaction between students, and improvement of self-organization skills. The experiment showed that students managed to overcome the fear of expressing and defending their opinions in English due to active discussions in the comments. Besides, one of the main achievements of the study is to increase the motivation of students to learn and improve their foreign language competence.
