Abstract
This article aims to analyze the graphematic deviation of made by an engaged couple, who exchanged 97 love letters during 1936 and 1937 in Rio de Janeiro city. They were not distinguished persons, thus there is no information about them available in public assets and, then, all the extra-linguistic knowledge is obtained directly from the content of these letters. Therefore, through graphematic deviations, such as deletion, rhotacism, metathesis, overcorrection and even the familiarity with the spellings and , we propose to trace the profile and the degree of literacy of the couple. Therefore, this research is based on a philological nature and historical sociolinguistic analysis.
