Abstract
Examining the evolution of the concept of government helps to better understand the evolution of the knowledge of international relations and its central currents, as well as to explain how the specialized vocabulary and common concepts in the field have emerged and evolved. In an explanatory-analytical way, this article examines the course of historical evolutions in the concept of government from its inception to structural and substantial changes, from the city-states of Greece to the modern state. This study seeks to answer these two questions: Are we witnessing the emergence of postmodern government with the passage of modern times and entering the age of globalization? And how these evolutions have changed the modern government. With a positive answer, the present article concludes that a conceptual change has taken place in the modern state and these changes and transformations have been abundant, extensive and profound, such a way that these evolutions can be described as ontological and substantive, and we can talk about a new concept called postmodern government.
