Distance learning of Ukrainian language based on system Moodle: problems and prospects

Abstract

The author of the article analyzes some aspects of the distance learning technologies usage of the Ukrainian language in higher school, as follows: methodoligical and organizational foundations of the distance learning in Ukraine, definition of the distance learning offered by teachers, the features of Moodle system as a universal learning platform, and briefly presents the structure and content of the e-learning course of the Ukrainian language (for professional purposes), the Department of Linguistic Techniques and Culture of Professional Language of the Zhytomyr Ivan Franco state University. The author also introduces the results of the implementation of the proposed course in the educational process of the University, and also delineates the problems and prospects of the further improvement of the distance learning of the Ukrainian language. The author notes that the structure of the electronic course meets the General requirements for the structure of the academic disciplines in the Moodle system: 1) Sources and literature on the course (printed and online sources).2) General information about the course (programmes, guidelines for the electronic course (ENK) and evaluation of the criteria ZUN, abstract disciplines, Glossary, news, forum, blog, chat). The content of the training modules (highlighted in the theoretical material, practical work, tasks for the independent work, and modular control (control tasks, a control test), the final module is a final control for the final tasks and a final test). Teachers and students gradually master the innovative technologies of the distance learning. It is all about learning in real-time, synchronous chat, video conferences, telephone tallks, and asynchronous (newsgroups, e-mail); advanced training, through the online global computer network, an Intranet, a local computer network created at the University); the shift from the traditional learning in control and diagnostic tasks, including testing. Prospects of the introduction of the distance learning of the Ukrainian language – the active communication between all the participants of the educational process, which is not limited by distance and borders. In addition, the unique didactic tools enable professionals to improve their speech and language knowledge and skills throughout life.
