Abstract
The representation of the American city through the African American gaze is a crucial viewpoint that provides an insight into the urban experiences of the black migrants. The current paper is an attempt to comprehend the very process of migration that the blacks underwent in order to fend for better lives both socially and economically. It locates the American city as a space that appears to be egalitarian and welcoming to the black migrants but at the core turns out to be very biased towards them. The paper looks at the very bitter relationship that is formed between the black individual and the city that ends up completely shattering their dreams and aspirations.
