Abstract

After more than three decades of a general acceptance of the concept of corporate social responsibility, a gap exists in the Literature which would throw a light on how corporate entities in different political settings, economic contexts and cultural circumstances around the world understand, perceive and are indeed practicing the field of social responsibility. CSR evolved in the year 1800 in America with an objective of worker wellbeing and productivity progressed to integrated approach as on date. While, in India CSR evolved from dynastic charity to Mandatory CSR Spending over the period. In countable number of countries laws associated with CSR have been enacted, however in most countries CSR still remains voluntary practice. Further, it is observed that there is imbalance in Social Progress between West and East of the World. Many Codes and Standards are issued at global level to reduce such imbalance. But still the concept of CSR relies on values and attitudes of business enterprise and country's culture
