Abstract

During the full-scale invasion, the amount of environmental damage caused by the occupiers has long since crossed the billion-dollar barrier and is growing every day. As of April 1, it amounted to UAH 1,493 billion. The occupation of Zaporizhzhia and Chornobyl NPPs, massive shelling of thermal power plants, destruction of industrial plants and factories — all this proves that the environment is important even during the war. This includes the issue of economic environmental monitoring. Is it possible to monitor the situation on the temporarily occupied territories and in the area of active hostilities now? Unfortunately, at the community level, this can only be done on the basis of information from the website of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, official online media, social networks, as well as during online communication with representatives of local governments and residents of territorial communities (if possible). The environmental situation in the country should ensure the normal functioning of natural and man-made systems and preserve public health. Destabilization of ecosystems can lead to emergencies and environmental disasters. Society must learn to manage these processes at different levels: state, region, city, industry. To assess the ecological state of the environment, it is necessary, first of all, to obtain information on changes in all environmental indicators that characterize the state of ecosystems at a certain time of observation. In this context, the role of the state authorities and local self-government bodies in ensuring socio-economic and legal conditions for environmentally safe life of citizens and sustainable development of Ukraine.
