Abstract
No Period in the history of economic thought has attached more importance and more attention to the concept of empowerment of women than that of the present period. However, the empowerment of women and their contribution to social and economic development of the country to a greater extent depend on the availability of and accessibility to employment opportunities for them. Though a large number of women in India are engaged in economic activities, they had limited access to training, education, skills, credit and other inputs. To overcome such deficiencies the Government has been taking several steps from time to time to develop the women both on social and economic fronts.
