The synonymization of periphrastic constructions in the media: semantic aspect

The article deals with issue of periphrasis in the modern media text. The process of synonymization of periphrasis is analyzed by the author. The wide potential of periphrasis as a unit of language is demonstrated on the example of modern Ukrainian media. The article gives some definition of periphrasis from the different scholars’ points of view: as stylistic means, as a part of secondary nomination, as a unit of phraseology. There is a little information available on the types of system relations in the paraphrases. The article defines the features of functioning of synonymic periphrasis in texts. Basic ways of synonyms’ formation periphrastic are represented. The examples of synonymic periphrasis in the newspapers and online media are represented. It is found that the more expanded groups of synonymic periphrases are in the anthroponymic lexical units. These periphrases provide positive or negative emotional evaluation. It is necessary to indicate that the synonymization is the important process of language evolution. The more developed functional language settings, the more expanded groups of synonymic periphrases. Synonymic periphrases create "semantic concentration", which enhances the emotional sphere of the text.
