Abstract
The article discusses the approaches to the Russian and foreign psychotherapy of addicted patients. The role of the eclectic approach is emphasized as it's an inevitable stage in the development of psychotherapeutic methods of addicted patients' treatment. Different psychotherapeutic views on the nature of alcoholism are presented. The issues of psychological bases for psychotherapy of alcohol addiction, selection of this or that psychotherapeutic treatment method are discussed, in particular such issues as premorbid characteristics of patients and preferences in the method selection. The authors discuss an appropriate psychotherapeutic style of guidance of a therapist who provides treatment.
