Abstract
In this article the representation of the image of indigenous people in a postcolonial text is considered by the example of New Zealand literature. The qualitative changes of maori image in the literature over a period from the beginning of the 20th century are analyzed. A number of authors whose works appear to be the most illustrative examples in regard to the subject matter is presented. The author proves the correlation of the liberalization of New Zealand society with the formation of autochthonous movement in the national culture ? The Maori Renaissance
