Abstract
Employment exchanges, recruitment consultancies and classified advertisements are passé. Hiring through social media is in vogue. Recruiters, today, realise the hollowness of the traditional methods of hiring which essentially rely on a series of boring questions. Savvy job seekers can take advantage of social media and online communities to improve their odds of finding a job. At the same time, if employers follow intelligent policies they can leverage relevant social media information in the selection of top qualified candidates, especially for specialized positions. So, it is only a matter of time before social networks became an important source of filling openings amid fierce talent competition. This paper tries to highlight the views / opinions of different recruiters towards social media recruiting, the trends in social media recruiting, the challenges and shortcomings of social media recruiting and the strategies to make social media recruiting an effective one.
