Abstract

Our country has a rich population because of growing walnut trees from seed for many years. However, selection of varieties according to unsuitable ecology and absence of orchard with established standard varieties affect the quality and quantity of the product and reduce exports. It is of great importance to carry out adaptation studies in the occurrence of variety features due to the effect of genetic structure and environmental conditions. This study was conducted in order to determine the performance of 4 native (Şen 1, Şen 2, Şebin, Bilecik, Kaman 1, Kaman 5, Maraş 18) and 5 foreign (Chandler, Fernor, Fernette, Pedro, Midland) walnut varieties which are widely grown in Menemen ecological conditions. For this purpose, morphological, pomological and chemical properties and productivity were examined. The highest value of tree height, stem diameter and tree crown projection was obtained from Şen 1, Şebin and Midland varieties, while the highest value of fruit width (31.46 mm) and length (36.63 mm) was observed in Kaman variety. It was determined that the values were acceptable average fruit weight, internal efficiency percentages were identified between 34-47%, lateral fruit bearing percentages and anthracnose damage were showed differences among the cultivars. Also, linoleic acid was ranked the first row in terms of fatty acid compositions.
