Abstract
The article examines the problem of forming a secular branch of the national musical culture. The object of study is the cant culture of the Baroque. The purpose of this article is to establish the linkage between information in the cants' texts about the events that occurred and their documented descriptions. Scientific and practical novelty and validity of research are defined by an innovative approach to the principles of textual criticism of the study samples of secular musical culture of the XVII century. The author reveals the cants on historical the mesand establishes their connection with the events of the military history of Russia. By comparing the poetic cant texts of manuscript collections with historical documents the accuracy and thoroughness are displayed in their events. The principle of cooperation between the two branches of culture (religious and secular) in the language of cantis established.
