Media treatment of economic issues via television. An analytical study of the program network of the third Algerian channel

Abstract

This study aims to find out the most important economic problems dealt with by television, a very credible medium that combines image, sound and movement, and that has an important position among other media, in particular the means affiliated with the public sector in Algeria. It functions according to a tele-communicational work, which makes it differ, as a public channel, from the other private channels. The data of the network of programs was sought in the third Algerian channel. This study is based on answering how this channel addresses economic problems, by applying content analysis technology to a sample of the program network. The first phase covers the period from 03/09/2016to 30/06/ 2017. The content of this network was divided into “form” categories and “content” categories. after having carried out the analytical study (quantitative and qualitative), it was concluded that the programmatic network of the third Algerian channel includes many actions addressing economic issues that vary to include the financial, the banking, the industrial, the commercial, the services, and the agricultural sectors as well as the legal sector of the economy.
