Abstract

By subtitling movies, the translator puts the viewer in front of the real image to be conveyed without lessening or adding anything to the original version product. However, linguistic and cultural elements, sometimes, hinder the correct transmission of meaning. Therefore, it is the translator's mission to keep the meaning, thus, to keep the same effect of the source text in the target text. This paper seeks to study some translation aspects related to the loss of meaning in subtitles that are difficult to be understood by the viewer, due to his/her linguistic and cultural background.
