Lexical and semantic analysis of the concept HAUS / HOUSE in the novels of Thomas Mann "Buddenbrooks" and "The magic mountain"

Abstract

At the current stage of linguistic research becomes actual interest of scientists to the concepts, that are keys to the ethnic group or its representatives at a certain stage of their existence in space and time. In the context of the language of the novels of Thomas Mann has been allocated several major basic concepts that can be seen as defining the life of characters as subjects of the mentality of the German people. The concept of the HOUSE, which belongs to the most important categories in the national, linguistic and artistic pictures of the world of many ethnic groups, has been the object of numerous studies of scientists. This concept includes a universal, ethnic, socio-cultural features, as well as part of the artwork is complemented by elements of the author's personality. Observation of language material of novels of Thomas Mann's possible to determine the lexical-semantic field of concepts Haus (house), install the core and the periphery, language means of objectification. The novel "Buddenbrooks", which refers to the early period of the writer's work is his first major work, it is characterized by the important role of this concept for the characters as elements of the projection of subjective mental characteristics of representatives of the German bourgeoisie of the late XIX century. Therefore, we can assume that the lexical-semantic field, which defines this concept in the work, are formed on the basis of the presence of two aspects of its assignment: general and specific. The specific concept of relatedness regards buildings, there are objective in the physical space and belongs to the family Buddenbrooks. The general concept of relatedness Haus assumes the existence in the minds of the characters works as subjects of the German mentality its mental representation, a certain HOUSE as an important component of the system of values and priorities, evidence of their own social and family conditions.
